51 ( +1 | -1 ) If you had to choose,What would be strongest reason you play chess. Some people find it an amusing pass-time, i.e. most chessplayers, for others it has become so adictive that they dedicate the better part of their life to the study of 32 pieces than move on a 64 square board in an established pattern. So why do you play chess for? For the satisfaction of beating many a weaker player? Or is it just a means to excercising and exceeding your mental capabilities? Or do you just think it's fun and amusing in a Stratego kinda-a-way?

47 ( +1 | -1 ) cheesis for me the best way to get ridd of my thoughts from my "everyday life". it's a battle that helps to get ridd of agressions, is interresting and sometimes funny but also skullcrushing. i'm also playing it as entertainement at the bars with my friends (no kidding). unfortunately it also makes me sometimes forget to take more care of my girlfriend (after three hrs, she: "are you on there for longer? i thought we wanted to go out?" now, after all this, who needs therapie and anything else? ...just learn chess ;p kai
61 ( +1 | -1 ) Chess is forlosers like me who are self absorbed and petty. How I love myself let me count the ways? I am a chess poser wishing I might some day conquer the opening with my dying breath. I could read a seminal article and 5 mins later be struggling with should I play E4 or D4? I long for the monotany of digging ditches to the siren who keeps whispering in my ear; play Cyrano play Cairo play Mestrinho? I prefer to puff puff pass and forget chess and watch Sesame Street re-runs more in line with what my marbles can handle. Eye eye eye my sharona, CCM help me out here.....
In normal life I am calm and rational, but when it comes to chess, I can be very emotional.. I absolutely HATE losing and I'm often rude (altough not offending) to my opponent after losing a game.. winning is everything to me, altough I'm usually happy with a draw too, I just can't stand losing.
